                                                                  OUR ADVICE ON ORDERING A SKIP

WHAT SIZE SKIP DO I NEED?

This is always a difficult question, you need to look at and roughly calculate how much waste you have to dispose of.

We basically supply three sizes of skip:

                                                             Mini 2.30 Cu.yd (1.75 Cu.m) - Ideal for most small household projects

                                                             Midi 3.60 Cu.yd (2.70 Cu.m) - Ideal for most medium household projects

                                                             Maxi/Builders 6.00 Cu.yd (4.60 Cu.m) - For most larger projects (some of these have drop end doors enabling a wheelbarrow to be wheeled in)

Our prices are based upon the weight and types of waste that you place in our skips.

I'VE LOOKED AT MY WASTE AND I'M STILL NONE THE WISER!

Section 12-15 of the Information Table (shown below) shows some examples of various common projects and the approximate average weights of the waste.

The Prices Table (shown further below) gives examples of the weight of soil you would expect to fit in each size of skip and how many standard black bin bags you would expect to fit in each size skip, however, please bear in mind that these are only approximate guidelines.

I'LL ORDER A SMALLER, CHEAPER SKIP AND HOPE FOR THE BEST!

In our experience, Customers NEVER say "I wish we had ordered a smaller skip" and RARELY is a skip not full upon collection!

It is far more economical to order a larger skip and not quite fill it, than it is to have one smaller skip, fill it and then still need another.

I'LL ORDER A SMALLER SKIP AND FILL IT LIKE A LARGER SKIP BY PUTTING BOARDS UP THE SIDES!

NO! Not a good idea! You must load the skip in accordance with our Hire Terms and Conditions. Sorry but due to high disposal costs; we are very strict on this matter!

                          OVERLOADING A SKIP WILL ALWAYS INCUR AN EXCESS CHARGE!

IS IT CHEAPER IF I TRY TO KEEP MY WASTE TYPES SEPARATE?

Yes, all our disposal charges are based on weight and the disposing of Heavy Mixed Waste, for example: Soil, Bricks, Wood, Plastics and other rubbish all mixed together throughout a skip, is very expensive to dispose of, due to the time taken having to sort the Mixed Waste at the disposal site. Whereas, if the Soil and Bricks were placed in one skip and the Mixed Waste placed in a separate skip or one of our Dumpy Recycling Bags, the price would be a lot cheaper. 

SO, IF I JUST PUT ONE WASTE TYPE IN A SKIP, I SAVE MONEY?

Yes, we offer a discount for skips containing just ONE of the following; Metal, Untreated Timber, UPVC Frames (No Glass), Clean Clear Polythene, Cardboard, Paper, Glass, Hardcore and Light Weight Greenery. Email or telephone us for further details. (Subject to conditions).

BUT I DON'T HAVE THE ROOM FOR TWO SKIPS OR I HAVEN'T ENOUGH WASTE TO WARRANT TWO SKIPS

Even segregating the waste WITHIN a skip helps, with the example shown above, placing the Soil and Bricks in the bottom of skip and placing the Mixed Waste on the top, allows us to simply remove the Mixed Waste first at the disposal site.

WHERE WILL YOU PUT THE SKIP?

We recommend that, if possible, the Skip is sited on your property, as siting on the Public Highway* involves us having to obtain a Licence from the Highways Department which incurs a charge (see section 8 of the Information Table shown below).

* PLEASE NOTE: The Highway is normally any land outside of your garden fence/wall or property boundary; This includes The Grass Verge, Pavements, Parking Areas, Lay-Bys and the Road. Be aware that just because you mow the grass outside of your house does not mean that you own it.

IMPORTANT: ONCE A SKIP ORDER IS PLACED, HIGHWAY LICENCES ARE NON REFUNDABLE AND NON CANCELLABLE AND ARE CHARGEABLE TO THE HIRER EVEN IF THE SKIP ORDER IS CANCELLED.

WILL YOU BE ABLE TO GET YOUR LORRY ONTO MY DRIVE?

Our lorries are large, heavy, wide and long and obviously we require adequate access to the property. On the assumption that we have enough room to get onto your property; the approximate minimum dimensions required are 3.10m wide, 3.90m high and an access and site surface capable of withstanding 18.0 tonnes.

Please also check for the following: Overhanging Trees, Branches, Cables, Roof Edges, Satellite Dishes and Manhole Covers (which may be hidden under gravel/stone).

CAN'T YOU WAIT WHILST WE FILL THE SKIP? IT WON'T TAKE US LONG!

Yes, we offer a 'Wait and Fill Service'. Simply make an appointment to arrange an agreed time, we will then deliver a skip in an agreed time slot and wait for a limited time whilst you fill the skip.

                                       Under these circumstances, you would not need a Highway Licence!

HOW LONG CAN I KEEP THE SKIP?

                       Our Standard Hire Periods are: MINI SKIPS - upto 3 days, MIDI SKIPS - upto 4 days, MAXI/BUILDERS SKIPS - upto 5 days. However, we are flexible!

If you Order Online, you can request a Preferred Collection Date or you can simply advise us when you place your order. It is very important that, if you need the skip longer, you advise us BEFORE the due Collection Day, otherwise, if we make a wasted journey, an excess charge will be incurred. Unless we are advised otherwise, a skip will be collected within two working days of the end of the stated hire period. NB. If a skip is sited on the Public Highway, it must be collected when full or within the time stated by the Highway Authority.

2. All Prices are subject to change without notice and include VAT @ 20.0%.   Our Online Price List show the Discounted Sale Price of £5 per skip (off our Standard Inclusive Price List)

3. Our accepted methods of payment are: i. Cash or Cheque before or upon delivery. ii. Internet Banking Payment BEFORE delivery.                

4. We charge an excess for deliveries outside of our local area (Zone 1)

5. WASTE TYPES: INERT WASTE is basically, anything that will not rot, i.e. Soil, Stone, Rubble, Bricks, Concrete, Sand and Clay

                                    MIXED WASTE (D/T/B/I) is Non Hazardous - Domestic, Trade & Commercial, Builders or Industrial Waste

6. Hire Periods are up to the days shown, however, we are flexible. We do not normally deliver or collect skips on a Saturday or Sunday. 7. If a Skip is to be sited on the Public Highway i.e. The Road, Pavement, Grass Verge, Lay by, Parking Bay, etc...

         We require between ONE and FOUR working day's notice (depending on the location) to apply for a Highway Licence and the charge is between £20.00 and £45.00       

    IMPORTANT:  ONCE A SKIP ORDER IS PLACED, HIGHWAY LICENCES ARE NON REFUNDABLE AND NON CANCELLABLE AND ARE CHARGEABLE TO THE HIRER EVEN IF THE SKIP ORDER IS CANCELLED.

8. To avoid the need to purchase a Highway Licence, We now offer a 'WAIT & FILL' Service!

              Simply make an appointment to arrange an agreed time, We will then deliver a Skip in an agreed time slot and wait for a limited amount of time whilst you fill the skip    

9. RECYCLING: OUR AIM IS TO RECYCLE ALL MATERIALS WHEREVER POSSIBLE:  Should you have any of the items shown below, it would assist us greatly if

           these items could be placed on top of the skip for easy removal for RECYCLING or we can supply you with our 'FREE DUMPY RECYCLING BAGS' upon request:-

                    METAL, UNTREATED TIMBER, UPVC, CLEAN CLEAR POLYTHENE, CARDBOARD, PAPER, GLASS, HARDCORE AND GREENERY

      We also offer a discount for skips filled with just ONE of the materials shown above i.e. A skip filled ONLY with Clean Cardboard..... Email or call us for details!

10. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE PRICE OUR SKIPS ACCORDING TO THE WEIGHT OF THE WASTE THAT IS PLACED IN THE SKIPS:

         These limits are clearly shown in the table; please select the weight limit that best corresponds to your waste type. i.e. up to 1.4 tonnes, up to 2.0 tonnes, etc.

         EXCESS WEIGHTS above the limits shown, will be charged at a pro rata rate of up to £96.00 per tonne for MIXED WASTE and £8.40 per tonne for INERT WASTE

11. SHOWN BELOW ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF MIXED WASTES. This will hopefully help you to decide whether you need to select Light Weight, Medium Weight or Heavier Weight.

       YOU THEN NEED TO DECIDE ON THE SIZE OF THE SKIP - As a rough guide, each skip will hold approximately this many Standard Black Bin Bags:

                                          MINI SKIPS (2.30 Cu.yd): 25 - 30 Bags ~~~ MIDI SKIPS (3.60 Cu.yd): 35 - 40 Bags ~~~ MAXI/BUILDERS SKIPS (6.00 Cu.yd): 60 - 65 Bags

      PLEASE NOTE that these are advisory examples only and are subject to volume and weight restrictions.

12. EXAMPLES OF LIGHT WEIGHT MIXED WASTE - (up to 1.2 tonnes for a 3.60 Cu.yd MIDI Skip - up to 1.4 tonnes for a 6.0 Cu.yd MAXI/BUILDERS Skip)

       General House Clearance or Moving House - NB. If you have stored rubbish in your garage, garden shed, spare room or loft, we recommend that you order a 6.0 Cu.yd Maxi/Builders Skip.

       Garden Clearance or Tidying with No Soil, Stones, Slabs, Bricks or Turf.

       Clearing out a Standard sized Loft, Garage or Garden Shed.

       Old Furniture/Garden Furniture/Clothes & Toys.

       Replacing an average sized Fitted Kitchen or Bathroom.

       Replacing Carpets from one or two average sized rooms.

       Light Builders Waste with No Soil, Concrete or Bricks.

       Light Garden Waste, Shrubbery or Cuttings

13. EXAMPLES OF MEDIUM WEIGHT MIXED WASTE (up to 2.0 tonnes)

       Replacing Carpets from two or three average sized rooms

       Garden Clearance/Tidying mixed with small quantities of Soil, Stones or Turf

       Light Builders Waste mixed with small quantities of Bricks, Clay or Soil

14. EXAMPLES OF HEAVIER WEIGHT MIXED WASTE (up to 2.5 tonnes)

       A Mixture of Bricks, Soil, Clay AND General Builders Waste

       Any Flat Roofing Project

       Replacing a Garden Shed

       Small to Medium Building/Landscaping/Fencing Projects

       General Over Site Building Waste (we strongly advise using a separate skip for you inert waste)

15. Due to Landfill Tax and Disposal Rates increasing annually,

                               WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT WHERE POSSIBLE, CUSTOMERS SEGREGATE THEIR WASTE TO AVOID HEAVY MIXED LOADS

                          IT MAY BE CHEAPER TO HAVE TWO SMALLER SKIPS TO SEGREGATE YOUR WASTE THAN FILL ONE LARGE SKIP WITH MIXED WASTE!

                                                                                            Why should The Government gain on yet another hidden Tax?

16.                  PLASTERBOARD AND PLASTER - NO MORE THAN 10% OF THE TOTAL WASTE IN THE SKIP

                                   both must be segregated from other waste types in the skip by placing it into Dumpy Bags (which we can provide upon request)

                                              and placed on top of the other waste but kept within the shape of the skip for easy removal at the disposal site.

                                                                  An excess of £72.00 inc vat per tonne will be incurred for any amount above the 10% limit

                                                        Please note that neither Plaster or Plasterboard are Inert and cannot be placed in an Inert Waste Skip

1. The prices shown assume payment before or upon delivery of any materials, delivered to our Local Area (Zone 1) and that the Customer will abide by our Hire Terms and Conditions

2. Materials are delivered in a Skip or Dumpy Bag and tipped out of or off loaded at the delivery site. Where materials are tipped out, we recommend placing a heavy duty plastic sheet on the ground to aid shovelling, these are available from Builders Merchants.

3. Only one Material can usually be delivered per journey

4. We require adequate access to the delivery site, our lorries are heavy, high, wide and long, therefore please check for overhanging trees/branches/cables/overhanging roofs, Manhole Covers and that we will have adequate access dimensions.

5. We do not recommend shovelling materials out of a skip, some of our skips have reinforced bottoms which can make shovelling extremely difficult.

6. We do not leave the skip at the delivery site unless the Customer is hiring the skip.

7. Prices shown are for delivery to our local Area (Zone 1). For delivery to other Areas, please add the following Excess Charge per delivery;   Zone 2   +   £3.36
